France: Insider Data Leak Fuels Crypto Home Invasions, Transparency Backfires

A data leak involving a French tax employee selling sensitive information from a government crypto database to criminals has led to violent home invasions, according to CryptoSlate. The employee compiled dossiers on cryptocurrency specialists and others, providing the data to attackers for as little as €800. This case highlights the vulnerability of individuals when state identity systems are compromised, mapping names to addresses and family structures. France's National Police Inspectorate is investigating numerous cases of professional secrecy violations and database diversion. The illicit trade includes services like vehicle registration lookups and wanted-persons file checks. French authorities are responding by bolstering defenses and removing home addresses of crypto business leaders from public registries.
